Your character's name is Kalyn. Face Shape: triangle Skin Tone: golden tan Eye Colour: black Hair Colour: black with blue highlights Hair Characteristics: curly, midback length, dutch french braid, bangs, rightside part Height: 6'0" Build: curvaceous Special Marks: strong chin, body scar Voice: alto Character sheet. Fill it out. Fill it ALL out. If you don't fill it all out, you get a nice big auto-reject. What to do once you fill it out is at the end. Your Name: What should I call you? If you get approved, what will we list you as on the player page? E-Mail: Since I do, after all, need to know how to be able to contact you ... Other Contact: AIM, ICQ? Those are the only two I've got, though you can list others. Webpage: If you have one to plug. Or two. Or lots. Character Being Applied For: Just to sum it up nice and neat. Name, title, and Court or affiliation. True Name: Long held to have utmost power over an individual, the true name is the name of their heart, a close-kept secret. It can be anything at all, regardless of language or context, though it should relate to the truest part of the character. Use-Name: In a human character, this will probably be their legal name. For fae and halflings, this may be legal name or simply what they commonly introduce themself by. Please indicate where the name comes from (i.e. given name, legal name, assumed name, etc.), meaning, and language source. Nicknames / Aliases: Just what it sounds like. Meanings and language sources are good here too, and if they use the alias(es) for something in particular, explaining is nice. Gender: Straightforward, I think. Race: fae, mortal, halfling? If fae, indicate what type. If halfling, indicate type and approximate 'parts' (half-and-half? quarter-fae?). Make sure you let me know what folklore you're pulling from! The links page has some good resources on this. Age: Anywhere at all on the spectrum; fae may be nearly any age (use your good sense), while halflings can live twice as long as a human under average circumstances. Regardless, indicate apparent age as well. Birthdate / Sign: Or when they celebrate if they haven't one. Relating astrology to personality is generally nice. Likes: Sunshine, fluffy kittens, gummy worms? A little bit on why they like it is always a good thing. Dislikes: Strike that, reverse it. Clouds, rats, peas and carrots. Otherwise, same as above. Hobbies: The things they do with their free time. Once again, why is nice. Appearance: The usual drill. For those fae or halflings with 'human disguises', describe those here as well. For fae and halflings in general, racial traits should be evident -- that is, a fae of classical "high elf" blood would evince pointed ears, while one of dryadic blood might be green-skinned. Personality: Write enough to give a feeling for your character -- several paragraphs at least. One of the definite make-or-break sections of the application. Nobody is perfect; flaws should be evident, but at the same time nobody is evil beyond some spark of decency (we hope). Try to balance things out to make a real person here, not a saint or a demon. History: You can have all the secret and mysterious parts of history you want, but you're going to have to tell ME them. Yes, I mention this elsewhere, but I reiterate here for good measure. Birth to present, including what brought them to Gibraltar, how they fit into the conflict, how they came to serve wherever they do, et cetera. NPCs: Family members, friends, victims, enemies, slaves, goons -- you name it. Try to limit it to the important ones who are likely to show up in the stories. Powers: Fae get powers drawn from their mythological "blood" -- that same dryad would be able to speak to trees, et cetera, while a silkie would be able to shapechange into a seal and such. Mortals may have nothing, or may be hedge-wizards or psychics. Halflings can evince the powers of both sides, though neither should be as strong as the fullbloods. See here for more information. Weaknesses: The classical fae weakness of cold iron, perhaps, or the silkie's ties to the sea and to her sealskin coat. Halflings will similarly have only some of the weakness of each side of fae blood. These should be weaknesses as related to powers, not personality flaws. Note that mortals regardless of powers are more succeptible to psionics then fae, though the degree varies from individual to individual. Court / Affiliation: Above? Below? Are they part of the growing faction Between? Do they sell their services to the highest bidder? Check the information page if you're confused. Title: Within the Court, or very rarely from outside. A title may be attatched to a job or without one, and occasionally a duty will be given without an accompanying title. Titles do not necessarily imply lands. See here for more information on the workings of fae society. Goals: What is it they hope to get out of this? To see the King reclaim his lands, or to see the Queen forever triumphant? To see Gibraltar free of those quibbling pointy-eared twits? Again, your goals can be secret -- but not from me. Writing Sample: Unless you feel your application shows your writing style with this character and in general adequately well. Writing samples should be done in third person, featuring your character in any kind of situation at all. Dialogue is nice, interior monologues are nice -- anything that lets me get a feel for the 'voice'. Besides, I like writing samples. ^__^ Secrets: Anything that didn't get fit in earlier that you think I should know about your character but you want to keep from your fellow players? I don't care if they happen to be gay or think that the Queen is an evil bitch, but if they're plotting to sell the Court Above out to the King in return for a title, that's something you should tell me. Or else. Anything Else: Got something that doesn't fit above? A theme song, a bit of trivia, an image, whatever? A note for me just because? Put it here. You're done! Send the completed application off in the body of an e-mail or as a webpage link to me with the subject heading [Lands Above] Character Name. Attatched files WILL be discarded and the applications automatically rejected; I'm a paranoid person and I hate attatchments. If this is a problem for you, e-mail me and we'll work out a compromise. And that's that!
