Isaac barged into Summer\u2019s room, not caring about the guards, maid-servant, or her sleeping in her bed. He went over to the window and pulled back the curtains, allowing the sun to shine bright into the spacious room. He headed over to Summer\u2019s bed, stood right by her, and tapped his foot impatiently. He rolled his eyes and let out a big sigh. \u201cMy lady, you have been asleep far too long now. Perha- No, you should- need to wake up. Now!\u201d he barked\u00a0impatiently\u00a0as his foot tapping quickened.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The abrupt sound of Sir Isaac\u2019s shouting intruded unpleasantly on Summer\u2019s dreams. She rolled over, tangled in a web of red hair and coverlets, and frowned at him. \u201cYou,\u201d she said, \u201cshould not be in here while I\u2019m in this state. You should send my maid.\u201d She meant it to sound severe, but a massive yawn in the middle rather spoiled the effect. Brushing as much of her hair out of her face as she could, Summer frowned up at the curly-haired young knight. \u201cWhy must I wake up?\u201d<\/p>\n

She wondered if he even had any idea how she had tumbled, exhausted, into bed in the darkest hours of the night after sitting up with Cook\u2019s smallest daughter, praying the child\u2019s fever would break. Probably not. She smothered another yawn and pushed herself upright in the bed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Isaac rolled his eyes when he heard maid.\u00a0Does her maid have to do everything?<\/em> he thought and gritted his teeth. \u201cIt seems I am now your bodyguard.\u201d He let out a sigh in annoyance, all royals were\u00a0snobbish\u00a0and made\u00a0people do things for them. \u201cTalk about bad luck.\u201d he mumbled, making sure Summer didn\u2019t hear him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Isaac noticed Summer examining him, was it because he was already in armor? He looked down at himself and looked back up at the other. \u201cWell, don\u2019t you have duties to do and it\u2019s no good for you to sleep in.\u201d he replied.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Her jaw dropped. \u201cYou\u2019re my \u2014 no. Absolutely not. Whose stupid idea was that? My father\u2019s? No.\u201d Summer threw off the coverlets and made for the door, disregarding the fact that she was about to go tearing down the halls of the castle in her nightdress. \u201cI refuse to have a bodyguard \u2014 much less \/you\/. Arrogant, stupid, obnoxious, overbearing \u2014 !\u201d<\/p>\n

“What! The hell! Is going on! Here?!” a voice roared, and she veered and shot into the room.<\/p>\n

“Father! I don\u2019t need a bodyguard. What do I need with a bodyguard?” Summer folded her arms and glared petulantly at her father.<\/p>\n

“There\u2019s been an increase in banditry, the lands to the north of us are at war, and until I find someone who will take you you\u2019re my heir. This is not up for debate.”<\/p>\n

“I refuse!”<\/p>\n
