I do not need you to bring me friends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Insolently he licks his nose at her, and she glances back up at Stiles. \u201cYou see how I am abused here, taken advantage of. He did that to you too, obviously.\u201d She tilts her head a little to the side. \u201cWho\u2019s your best friend?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stiles smiles, almost\u00a0<em>sheepishly<\/em>, ducking his head as Summer suddenly realizes who he is. He didn\u2019t even realize there was a\u00a0<em>thing<\/em> for him to be recognized\u00a0<em>for<\/em>, but there it is. \u201cYeah,\u00a0<em>yeah<\/em>, that\u2019s me, number twenty- four for Beacon Hills. The championship game was\u2014somehow like\u2026I don\u2019t know, it was a\u00a0<em>fluke<\/em>.\u201d And he\u2019d been\u00a0<em>terribly assaulted<\/em> after that, but Stiles left that bit out. Discretion and the better form of valor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hear that\u2019s a thing cats do. I\u2019m probably gonna insult him, here, but always kind of more of a dog person, me.&#8221; He\u2019s still rubbing Helios\u2019 ears, if the cat\u2019s in reach, his other hand still holding the ice to his knee. &#8220;My\u2014oh. Scott McCall. Number eleven if you pay attention to the Lacrosse team.\u00a0<em>Co-Captain<\/em>. Or\u2026maybe he\u2019s just\u00a0<em>captain<\/em> now that Jackson moved to London, I have no idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He&#8217;s blurting out agreement, excuses, names, and information in a steady stream she can hardly keep up with, mostly because her mind is going in at least two different directions at the moment: lacrosse team and animal clinic. It takes a second before she can match the name to the face &#8212; the dark, Latino-looking boy in the clinic, the one who has an inexplicable edge of wildness to her other senses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Seems like that would be determined when the new season starts,&#8221; she ventures.
