From his perspective it almost certainly takes entirely too long for Summer to get over her new fit of the giggles enough to catch Helios under the pawpits and lift him out of the Jeep. \u201cHelios, you are a very bad, naughty, wicked kitty,\u201d she scolds. The miscreant looks completely unimpressed and licks his nose complacently.<\/p>\n

She looks at Stiles with an exaggeratedly apologetic look on her face. \u201cAre you okay?\u201d The question does have some seriousness to it; kitties have sharp toes and Helios is not a \/small\/ cat. \u201cYou better come in the house and, uh, inspect the damage.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Stiles legitimately\u00a0sighs<\/em> with relief when Summer finally lifts the cat out of his lap; he slouches a little in the driver\u2019s seat and tries to pull at his offended parts without making it\u00a0obvious<\/em> that\u2019s what he\u2019s doing, or allowing her to\u00a0see.<\/em><\/p>\n

Of course, a second later, she\u2019s making an offer that sounds somehow\u00a0far less innocent<\/em> than he thinks it should, and Stiles\u2019 whole body jerks upwards again, this time slamming his knees into the steering wheel of the Jeep. He makes a wordless sound of pain and dismay, sort of leaning forward to rub at his knees while he squints at Summer confusedly, eyebrows scrunching together. \u201cI\u2026what? You\u2026uh\u2026.what<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s a full five seconds — that feels like five minutes while her brain sputters in overdrive — after Stiles\u2019 stammered words before Summer realises how she sounded. She\u2019s sure she must be unflatteringly beet red. \u201cI meant — not for me to help \u2026 just, sharp toes \u2026 you might be bleeding. \u2026 \u201d Nothing she says makes it sound any better.<\/p>\n

Giving up on not sounding prurient, she just repeats, \u201cYou should come inside and make sure he didn\u2019t claw you by accident. Besides, I owe you some kind of reward for going to all this effort.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
