It reminds me of the \u201cbike to work\u201d movement. That is also portrayed as white, but in my city more than half of the people on bike are not white. I was once talking to a white activist who was photographing \u201cbike commuters\u201d and had only pictures of white people with the occasional \u201cblack professional\u201d I asked her why she didn\u2019t photograph the delivery people, construction workers etc. \u2026 ie. the black and Hispanic and Asian people\u2026 and she mumbled something about trying to \u201cimprove the image of biking\u201d then admitted that she didn\u2019t really see them as part of the \u201cgreen movement\u201d since they \u201cprobably have no choice\u201d \u2013<\/p>\n

I was so mad I wanted to quit working on the project she and I were collaborating on.<\/p>\n

So, in the same way when people in a poor neighborhood grow food in their yards \u2026 it\u2019s just being poor\u2013 but when white people do it they are saving the earth or something<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is fucking important.<\/p>\n

Same concept as rich white people improvising with what they have = life hack but poor white people improvising with what they have = redneck\/ white trash and black people improvising with what they have = ghetto. This has gotta stop.<\/p>\n
