Summer\u2019s voice was choked with tears, and she rubbed a hand over her swollen, red eyes. \u201cPercival, please. I just need \u2014 I need some time. I don\u2019t \u2014 \u201d Her voice fell. \u201cI don\u2019t like you to see me like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“Summer, you don\u2019t need to hide anything from me.” Percival stepped closer, taking her hand in his. “There\u2019s not anything you could do to make me think less of you.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“That isn\u2019t what I said,” she protested, feebly. She didn\u2019t try to take her hand back, though; his warm grip was oddly comforting.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“I just\u2026” Percival frowned, looking downward. “I don\u2019t want you to be alone when you\u2019re feeling this way, it\u2019s not good for a person, and I need you to know that I\u2019m always here for you and I\u2019m not going to make those mistakes I made before again and-” He trailed off, sighing, before looking back up into her eyes. “I don\u2019t want to leave you, Summer.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She put her face against his shoulder and just breathed, in and out, trying to swallow down more tears. She wanted to find some way to send him away, but she couldn\u2019t think of anything he\u2019d actually listen to. And it was completely useless to try to move him physically \u2014 he was twice her size. \u201cDamnit, Percival,\u201d Summer muttered helplessly.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Percival kissed the top of her head. \u201cYou\u2019re grand. You deserve the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
