And I know that I have to live with his face in my mind for a month or two, or more like the rest of my life, and so of course I\u2019ll want to punch him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>So I try\u2026 The problem with trying to punch someone in the face who\u2019s been studying kung fu for five years\u2014someone who has a lot of free time and energy, and has a lot of frustration built up, someone who for a long time lived in a vulnerable way and destroyed himself and was powerless to control the world and was sent away to sad, scary prisons to get beat up by his jailmates, someone who\u2014when he finally got out\u2014couldn\u2019t keep himself out of court or rehab or jail again, who lost his first marriage, lost custody of his kid for a time, lost the right to vote, lost his career\u2026 The problem here is when he got healthy, what did he want? He wanted control, and of course he wanted to find a way to protect himself.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>So when I try to punch him, he does what he\u2019s learned to do. I don\u2019t actually even remember getting punched in the face. It\u2019s Downey who notices. \u201cHey, you\u2019re bleeding,\u201d he says.
