Summer repeated, \u201cFae,\u201d and stopped. Faeries were \/real\/? \/That\/ was the reason for the slightly off tone of some people? They weren\u2019t human? In a way that wasn\u2019t the same as the way she wasn\u2019t quite human?<\/span><\/p>\n

“Fae,” she said again, covered her face, and started to laugh. It was a little hysterical. “So many things suddenly make sense now,” she managed, between bursts of slightly hysterical giggles.<\/p>\n

Another place she could never belong. The thought flickered through her mind, and she stopped laughing as abruptly as she\u2019d started.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

At the utterly confused expression on Summer\u2019s face, Vex guessed that he\u2019d been right about her cluelessness. He could tell that she wasn\u2019t entirely human, but if she didn\u2019t know about the Fae, that must have meant that she wasn\u2019t a full-bred either; her bloodlines were weak, and definitely not part of the royal families. \u201cYes, Fae,\u201d Vex muttered patiently.<\/p>\n

The Mesmer blinked at the hysterical giggling that came from the woman\u2019s mouth as she repeated the word. It was beginning to grow a little annoying, but he decided not to bother snapping at her. \u201cI\u2019m sure,\u201d he found himself absently saying when she mentioned how much the \u2018Fae\u2019 explained.<\/p>\n

When the woman\u2019s giggles abruptly died out, Vex found himself slightly concerned. \u201cWhat?\u201d he asked with a tilt of his head, raising an eyebrow at Summer. \u201cIs there a problem?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She shrugged stiffly. “Just — you think I’m one of you, don’t you. You think I’m Fae.” She turned away, arms folded and holding her elbows in tight. “I’m not. I don’t belong with you either. I don’t \/belong\/ anywhere. Not human, not Fae, not mutant nor magician, not wholly anything.” She shook herself.<\/p>\n

“Sorry. Sorry. Not relevant. Are you feeling okay now, better? Less hung out to dry by someone obviously not worth your time?”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
