“Empathetic?” Summer\u2019s voice spiraled up with annoyance. “You don\u2019t want to say things like that to me, Vex. You don\u2019t want to play this game.” She sighed and picked up the cup, turning it in her hands. “No, okay, skip that.” The fluffy cat jumped off the couch and padded over to her, twining around her ankles and looking up with blue eyes.<\/p>\n

“Can we go back to you telling me what you are? Because mesmer doesn\u2019t actually mean anything to me, and you\u2019re acting like it should.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Vex nearly began to argue with the woman, but he forced his jaw to stay clenched, mouth shut. After all, she had said to disregard her irritable statements, and so Vex did his best to do so. Cracking his wrists, a collection of small, black sparks flickered across his joints momentarily. His eyes followed the cat for a moment, watching the fluff-ball make its way to Summer.<\/p>\n

At her question, the Mesmer tried to repress the slight, half-smirk that appeared on his features. \u201cMesmers are a rare type of Fae, which from what I\u2019ve gathered, you know very little about,\u201d he told her with an even-toned voice. \u201cI \u2018ave limited control on \u2018umans, and most Fae,\u201d he continued, cocking his head to the side. \u201cI could demonstrate, but you probably wouldn\u2019t like it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Summer repeated, “Fae,” and stopped. Faeries were \/real\/? \/That\/ was the reason for the slightly off tone of some people? They weren’t human? In a way that wasn’t the same as the way she wasn’t quite human?<\/p>\n

“Fae,” she said again, covered her face, and started to laugh. It was a little hysterical. “So many things suddenly make sense now,” she managed, between bursts of slightly hysterical giggles.<\/p>\n
