Her expression softened. \u201cI heard that, Victor darling.\u201d She scraped her nails a little against his skull. \u201cShhh now, I\u2019m only teasing. Let the SHIELDies alone.\u201d Slowly she stroked his hair, ruffling her fingers up into it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He turned and kissed her. \u201cI know\u2026and I will,\u201d he paused a moment, \u201cso long as they behave.\u201d He turned a little more so that he could look her in the eye. \u201cWhat exactly do you do for SHIELD? I\u2019ve heard of them, some of my friendly rivals are employed by them but I don\u2019t really know what\u2019s what there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t say a lot,\u201d Summer began slowly, searching his dark eyes. \u201cI can tell you what \/I\/ do, but not much more.\u201d She paused, eyes going distant. \u201cMostly, I do search and rescue. Because I\u2019ve got such a wide range, and I can identify people\u2019s mental signatures after having spent some time with them. So in a crisis situation, a crash, a building collapse, a hostage circumstance, I can tell who\u2019s in trouble and sometimes what kind of trouble. Then I can use my magic to clear a safe path. Sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThat sounds interesting, and don\u2019t worry, I know all about confidentiality. You think they\u2019ve got room for one more assassin? I\u2019m virtually indestructible.\u201d Victor added half jokingly. He\u2019d been thinking of a little more legalized version of his occupation, or rather one that was a little more sanctioned. \u201cIt must be nice, putting your gifts to use helping other people,\u201d he said almost wistfully while he stroked her hair.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cWell, I\u2019d never be able to do what you do, but I\u2019m not as happy as I could be.\u201d She sighed. \u201cI\u2019m a consultant, on purpose, so I can turn down missions that bother me, and so I can offer my services like when Sandy hit. I was down in New Orleans for almost a year after Katrina. But honestly there are times when I\u2019d rather be in combat instead of having to hang back and wait. I\u2019m only useful when things are at their worst, and it\u2019s a pretty thankless job.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cWhat would you rather be doing love?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a consultant does have it\u2019s ups I suppose. Yeah, I\u2019ve unique skills I suppose. Even before my vampirism I could rival most of the assassins out there. I agree though, the most important jobs are those that are rarely thanked.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
