As if he was letting her pay. He bought their passes and waited to be allowed on, bouncing on the balls of his feet. He turned to her with a sudden look of fake hurt. \u201cReally, Robbie? That\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve gotten that one.\u201d It faded to a smirk, though.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cYou didn\u2019t have to do that; I can pay for myself. And at least your name \/has\/ nicknames.\u201d She turned away, hooking elbows over the railing and gazing out across the water. The bright smile slipped from her face, leaving pensiveness and a strange sort of distance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He just laughed and shook his head, watching the ferry dock and unload. He noticed she\u2019d stopped smiling and he hooked his arm around her shoulders, pulling her a little closer. Forward, yes, but he liked her. \u201cWhat\u2019s on your mind, Mer?\u201d He said it the same dopey way he had before, trying to get her to smile even if involuntarily.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She let herself be pulled into the curve of his arm. She shrugged a little, still looking across the water. \u201cJust stuff. Nothing important.\u201d Turning in his hold, she looked up, smiling slightly. \u201cDon\u2019t worry, Robert. Time to board.\u201d She let him steer her onto the boat.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf you say so\u2026\u201d He sighed a bit and shook his head. No sense in forcing her. He walked with her and the rest of the waiting passengers into the ferry\u2019s deck. As they found a generally unpopulated area to wait in near the railing on the second deck, he leaned out over the side. \u201cSo\u2026\u201d He tried to think of something to say, but came up with nothing. The silence was alright though. He just stayed close to her and watched the gulls fly by.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;What, you don&#8217;t trust me?&#8221; she teased finally, aiming a punch at his shoulder. &#8220;You want to pry into the dark secrets of my mind already? We&#8217;ve just met. I don&#8217;t want to scare you off.&#8221; She made the mistake of actually looking into his eyes, and had to remind herself to breathe. Remind herself to stay controlled.<\/p>\n<p>He was an actor. He was famous, and a teen heartthrob. He probably had a girl somewhere already.
