\u201cIf you\u2019re worried about hurting me emotionally, then don\u2019t. You \u2026 can\u2019t, really. I\u2019ve been all those places,\u201d she looked down, picking at the grass, \u201cheard every possible hurtful thing. If it\u2019s about the vampirism \u2026 I think the only person who can ease your mind on that is yourself. I mean, so long as you can\u2019t accidentally turn me, I don\u2019t really care. Other than that, just don\u2019t lie to me, and we\u2019re good.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Victor\u2019s head snapped up and his eyes were hopeful. \u201cI\u2019m sorry you\u2019ve been to all of those places and if you\u2019re willing to put up with me\u2026.I\u2019d love to be with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

He had a distant look in his eyes for a moment then he turned to her. \u201cIt\u2019s impossible for it to happen accidentally. Even if I bit you, you wouldn\u2019t turn. You\u2019d have to drink my blood\u2026So long as I don\u2019t feed you blood, which I don\u2019t see happening\u2026\u201d He stopped realizing he was rambling like an idiot. \u201cIt just could never happen on accident.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBe with me?\u201d Summer\u2019s voice went up on a squeak. \u201cYou want to \u2026 but I\u2019m not \u2014 I mean, you\u2019re too \u2026 um.\u201d She was trying to hide a shy, surprised smile, ducking her head. \u201cI thought we were still talking about being friends,\u201d she murmured.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Victor blushed, something he rarely did. \u201cWell\u2026.umm..I..ahh\u2026\u201d For the first time in a long time he was at a loss for words. \u201cWell, uh, you had said something about wanting to be more than friends..? And I\u2019m too what? You\u2019re not what?\u201d He was worried now that he\u2019d gone too far and in the wrong direction.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201c\u2026 I expected you to say no to that. It\u2019s the way my life is.\u201d Summer pulled up some more grass, hair falling around her face. \u201cHonestly, Victor, nobody wants to be with someone who can truly tell if they\u2019re lying. I know you say different, but I\u2019m just not really a likable person. At least most people don\u2019t seem to think so.\u201d She glanced back up, through the waves of red hair. \u201cThat\u2019s not a \u2018no,\u2019 by the way. It\u2019s more of a \u2018I don\u2019t understand what you\u2019re thinking\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Victor smirked and moved his hand near her\u2019s, not quite touching but nearly there. \u201cWell I have this habit of defying expectations and I\u2019m determined to prove it to you.\u201d He smiled then looked back up at the night sky. \u201cEven before I was a vampire I knew I could read body language very well, it made most of my relationships impossible and a lot of them didn\u2019t work out because I saw the deception but let it go.\u201d He shrugged a bit then. \u201cI\u2019m thinking I want to be with you, we both have our own baggage but so long as it isn\u2019t a no then I\u2019m happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cAnd just how do you plan to prove it to me?\u201d she teased lightly.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Victor looked at her then and smiled a wide grin. Suddenly, his face went serious and he took her hand in his and brought her knuckles up to his lips and pressed his lips against her knuckles gently. His eyes never left hers and in a moment he was next to her, their thighs next to each other and his hand reached behind her back and held her other hand. He rested his head against her shoulder so as not to invade too much and whispered in her ear. \u201cHowever you want me to. Whether it be taking you out, enjoying an evening together or just hanging out. I will always be here for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She couldn’t quite help jumping at the speed of his movements. ‘Must be a vampire thing,’ she told herself, and then she was shuddering as his breath whispered past that point behind her ear that always, always unwound her. Victor’s voice was very nice, Summer had already admitted this to herself, and having him murmur in her ear was doing terrible things to her hormones. Deliberately, she leaned back into the half-embrace, and whispered back, “Surprise me. I want you to surprise me.
