\u201cWhat do you mean by cheating?\u201d Victor asked then sighed as he took a swig from a drink. \u201cI\u2019m usually a decent judge of character. That and there\u2019s something about you that draws me in. That makes me want to be around you.\u201d He said then looked down a little self conscious at explaining his emotions.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cEmpath,\u201d she said gently. \u201cI don\u2019t have to worry about if I should trust people. I call it cheating.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cOh, I see what you mean there. Well, I read people\u2019s facial expressions and body language pretty well. It\u2019s not the same as being an empath but it\u2019s served me pretty well.\u201d He ran a hand through his medium length hair, needing to do something, to act. He wasn\u2019t used to displaying his emotions and while he didn\u2019t have a problem with Summer knowing them he was afraid his emotions wouldn\u2019t be reciprocated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cNow why does talking about this tangle you up so much?\u201d Summer frowned a little, looking at Victor from the corner of her eye. \u201cFear, frustration, concern \u2014 that\u2019s a lot of shadows, darlin\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Victor looked up at her momentarily surprised then he remembered her ability. \u201cIt tangles me up cos I don\u2019t want to hurt the people I care for, which tends to happen. It\u2019s frustrating cos I have these emotions that are holding me back that I can\u2019t seem to shake.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He shrugged, his chameleon eyes staring into her own eyes. \u201cI have a lot of baggage but I like you. I like you a lot Summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“If you’re worried about hurting me emotionally, then don’t. You … can’t, really. I’ve been all those places,” she looked down, picking at the grass, “heard every possible hurtful thing. If it’s about the vampirism … I think the only person who can ease your mind on that is yourself. I mean, so long as you can’t accidentally turn me, I don’t really care. Other than that, just don’t lie to me, and we’re good.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
