Summer\u2019s mouth fell open. \u201cYou \u2026 have \u2026 kitty \u2026 ears!\u201d Her voice rose higher on each successive word. \u201c\u2026At least this is a nice kind of anon?\u201d She pushed herself upright on the couch, starting to laugh, clutching her middle. Helios headbutted Tony\u2019s chin and purred at full volume. \u201cCome here,\u201d Summer finally gasped, waving a hand.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Tony offered her an entirely unfeigned pout and he was, for possibly the first time in his adult life, actually blushing.\u00a0 Albeit very faintly.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t think I want to,\u201d he groused in reply, and turned his attention to the cat, dropping his hat for the moment so he had a free hand to scratch Helios\u2019s ears.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cIf you come over here I can pet you,\u201d she coaxed. \u201cYou don\u2019t want what you\u2019re giving Helios? He\u2019s a spoiled kitty.\u201d Helios lolled his head back into Tony\u2019s hand, blue eyes slitting closed, and Summer rolled her eyes. \u201cI\u2019m all wounded in the line of duty, and you pay more attention to the giant furball than me. How is this my life?\u201d But she smiled while she said it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He was trying to seem like he was ignoring her, but at the mention of petting, his ears swiveled upright, facing her direct, belying his supposed lack of attention.\u00a0 \u201cBut the fur ball isn\u2019t laughing at me, and he purrs,\u201d he replied, now arguing just for argument’s sake, rather than any real irritation, even if he still seemed slightly embarrassed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Summer bit her lips, trying not to laugh again. It made her sides hurt. “You can bring him with you, you know,” she pointed out. “It’ll be like a petting circle. Besides, Helios doesn’t even laugh at himself. Come on … I can see your ears twitching. And you know I like to play with your hair.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
