{"id":34171,"date":"2012-09-10T02:29:41","date_gmt":"2012-09-10T02:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.firechildren.net\/lightfire\/iamthefirechild\/2012\/09\/10\/trying-to-be-sincere-here-2\/"},"modified":"2012-09-10T02:29:41","modified_gmt":"2012-09-10T02:29:41","slug":"trying-to-be-sincere-here-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.firechildren.net\/lightfire\/iamthefirechild\/2012\/09\/10\/trying-to-be-sincere-here-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Trying to be sincere, here."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/eruditegrinder.tumblr.com\/post\/31001404246\/trying-to-be-sincere-here\">eruditegrinder<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As\u00a0I sit here and ruminate on City of Heroes (which is something I will\u00a0probably be doing quite a bit over the next several weeks) I cannot help but be awed at the community, and its reactions to the news.<\/p>\n<p>There was the initial shell shock of the announcement, for it was so very sudden.\u00a0 There was despair, and there was anger.\u00a0 There was blame placed and fingers pointed.\u00a0 But in no short order, there was action.<\/p>\n<p>In less than an hour after the announcement went live, the main <a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/petitions\/ncsoft-keep-ncsoft-from-shutting-down-city-of-heroes\" title=\"Save City of Heroes!\">petition<\/a>\u00a0went live. In the days since, the community rallied and promoted the petition, garnering attention from several gaming websites.<\/p>\n<p>Fans gathered on the official forums to offer solace to the developers at Paragon Studios, and to thank them for letting them be part of this living, breathing, online world.\u00a0 They have sent e-mails, as well as physical mails, and made calls to NCSoft.\u00a0 Some to beg and plead for a stay of execution, some to appeal to reason, others simply to inform the publishers about what precisely City of Heroes has meant to them.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m fairly certain some of the corresponence has been vulgar and inflammatory.\u00a0 that\u2019s just the nature of people.\u00a0 But the bulk of what I\u2019ve seen is respectful and informative, and so very wrought with emotion that it brings tears to my eyes and I have to stop for a moment to collect myself.<\/p>\n<p>There are the naysayers, of course. The cynics who say \u201cwhy bother?\u201d or \u201cIt won\u2019t make a difference.\u201d\u00a0 Maybe these people are right, maybe they aren\u2019t.\u00a0 But it isn\u2019t going to stop the community from trying.<\/p>\n<p>It may be these next three months truly are City of Heroes\u2019 swansong, but it\u2019s not going to keep\u00a0people from pulling themselves up out of whatever despairs or sorrows they\u2019re going through. It isn\u2019t going to make them forgo the bonds of friendship and community they have established.<\/p>\n<p>And it certainly isn\u2019t going to keep them from taking to heart the spirit of the game they all have in common; from standing firm in defense of something dear to them against insurmountable odds, no matter how hopeless or pointless it may seem.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not going to\u00a0 keep them from being Heroes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>eruditegrinder: As\u00a0I sit here and ruminate on City of Heroes (which is something I will\u00a0probably be doing quite a bit over the next several weeks) I cannot help but be awed at the community, and its reactions to the news.
