Summer arched an eyebrow, more than a little surprised at being approached out of nowhere. Usually she vanished into the crowd on the streets of the city. \u201cUm, hi. Summer. You can call me Summer.\u201d She took his hand, taking a quick assessment of his emotions as well. No threat, a little confused \u2026 she relaxed slightly. \u201cAnother southerner, hm? Where are you trying to go?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cA pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Summer,\u201d he said warmly. She seemed a bit uneasy, but it was a reasonable reaction. He should have considered how she would feel about being confronted by a man on the street. \u201cI\u2019m terribly sorry if I\u2019ve spooked you\u2026 I don\u2019t bite,\u201d he smiled. He pulled a small strip of paper out of his back pocket, squinting to read scribbled handwriting. \u201cI\u2019m looking for 653 Dolin Street. Do you happen to know where that is?\u201d He held out the paper for her to see, although the writing was likely illegible to anyone but himself.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cDolin, Dolin,\u201d Summer muttered to herself. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t sound familiar, no. I don\u2019t usually leave the park area, though, so I\u2019m not as familiar with the city as I could be. Did you try to flag down a cab and ask them?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Larke shook his head, suddenly feeling incredibly stupid. \u201cNo, Miss. I haven\u2019t tried that,\u201d he chuckled nervously. \u201cDidn\u2019t even occur to me\u2026 Perhaps I should. I hope it isn\u2019t far\u2026 I have an appointment, you see, and\u2026\u201d He shook his head again. \u201cIt\u2019s not important. Would you happen to have the time?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Pulling out her smartphone, Summer glanced down at it. “It’s almost 2:30.” Cocking her head to the side, she regarded Larke with a narrowed gaze. “I can help you out a bit better than that, then, although I warn you, if this is some kind of confidence trick, you’re like to regret it.
