Just a few blocks\u2019 walk.\u201d Shoving her hands into her pockets, Summer jerked her head in the appropriate direction and started walking. \u201cCome on. I\u2019ll apologise right now for the state of the place \u2026 I live alone, except for four cats, and so books and things tend to just stay piled. I don\u2019t have a lot of \u2014 people over.\u201d<\/p>\n

She\u2019d been going to say \u2018friends\u2019, but it was no good putting that on this poor man. Not even a local. She\u2019d let it go, and seize the moment while it lasted instead.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Tom shook his head, \u201cAh, no it\u2019s quite alright. I live alone as well, I don\u2019t usually have much company; most being the crew..\u201d He recalled, looking upward as he went to follow her shortly behind. \u201cIt couldn\u2019t be possibly be very bad, I could come by as worse..\u201d He laughed, looking around the streets and places.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That made her laugh, too. “Well, I warned you!” A quick turn and street-crossing, and the middle-height towers of a New York apartment complex rose before them. In just a few moments, she was capably unlocking a lower-floor door, opening it into a remarkably large space for New York living.<\/p>\n

It was crowded with bookshelves and electronics, though. A pile of pillows stood in for a couch, and a round papasan chair held pride of place before the widescreen tv, though the stack of books implied other entertainment. A tall, carpet-covered climbing tree, many-ledged, took up the space before one window, and a hallway led off on the opposite side.<\/p>\n

Two cats twined themselves about her ankles immediately, the silver tabby importuning them both with continuous meows. The larger, seal-point-and-white bicolour, merely stropped himself busily, headbutting Tom’s ankle as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
