Loki felt himself freeze at her words, ice spreading through his veins. \u00a0He had destroyed another connection, proven himself cruel and unworthy yet again. \u00a0He could not move as she poured her hurt over him; he drowned in it.<\/p>\n

Your brother.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy brother,\u201d he hissed, snapping back to reality. \u00a0He stepped to block the door. \u00a0\u201dMy brother was a fool, driven by petty whim and shallow connections.\u201d \u00a0Her hurt and his desperation were pooling together and he could hardly see straight through it all. \u00a0\u201dYou are not these things Summer. \u00a0Why must we pull at each other like this? \u00a0 \u00a0Can we claim power over others and who they are?\u201d \u00a0No, of course not, there was no hope for him. \u00a0But at the sight of those eyes of fire, he softened.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are anything but weak, my Summer. \u00a0You endure.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The endearment, small though it was, cracked her control. Shattered it. Summer lost the projection, blinked, and tears slid down her cheeks. A sob wracked her body. Hastily she shook her hair forward, hiding her face. \u201cI\u2019m sorry,\u201d she managed through a tight throat. \u201cI shouldn\u2019t\u2019ve said those things. You are \u2026 who you are, and I\u2019ve no right to \u2026 change you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cOh please, Lady Summer,\u201d Loki spoke into her hair, wrapping his arms around her, \u201cdo control yourself. \u00a0Some dignity, please,\u201d he laughed, and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. \u00a0He felt a strange sense of calm flood through him as her crying stopped.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Summer couldn\u2019t resist the relaxation of tense muscles as his arms went around her. Into his chest, she said, voice still choked, \u201cWhen have you ever known me to be dignified, Loki? Didn\u2019t all this start with play?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Suddenly he was very aware of the way she was held against him. \u00a0\u201dYou are right, my Summer. \u00a0Would you forgive me, just for now,\u201d he slid his hands through her hair, relishing the softness as it slid between his fingers as he dragged them down her neck and back, \u201ca moment of weakness?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“Loki, I consider neither play nor emotion weakness.” His sudden desire rang in her head like a cascading chorus of bells. She let it ride through her body, and curled her hands against his chest, letting more of her weight rest against him. “Right now, just now, I will forgive you almost anything.<\/p>\n

“Darling.” The endearment was low, pitched with meaning, unlike the careless southernisms she’d thrown around before.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
