\u201cGRK\u2014LOKI!\u201d Summer\u2019s surprise was so great she couldn\u2019t react more than to shriek his name. \u201cWHAT are you doing?!\u201d She tried to jerk her head up, at least, so she could watch their backs, could warn him. A thought put the fire out, leaving the halls in shadow, but she didn\u2019t need sight to guard them.<\/p>\n

Empathic senses spread wide, net-like, searching for the least hint of discovery.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

They burst out onto the black rocks, and Loki\u2019s quick pace led them quickly the portal area. \u00a0\u201dYou are an idiot to think I\u2019d let you stay behind in that state,\u201d he huffed bitterly. \u00a0Then he dropped her onto the ground unceremoniously. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Those who pursued were still a growing rumble.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake hold, now!\u201d he waved the device in front of her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wincing as she put a hand on her own hair, Summer slapped a palm upward against the device. \u201cThen I\u2019m an idiot. You should\u2019ve trusted me.\u201d But her eyelids were flickering with exhaustion, and she could feel muscle tremors on the edges of her awareness.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

After a pull of light and pressure, they were back on the edge of the bridge in Asgard. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Loki stepped back from her and waved his hands to mask the device again, and it was gone. \u00a0The two of them stood safe and successful. \u00a0<\/p>\n

In a flurry of thought, Loki wasn\u2019t certain if he wanted to hug her or go drink mead and sing war songs with her. \u00a0Or perhaps he would just catch her as she fainted. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Summer\u2019s head lay back in his arms and he stroked her rebellious hair from her face as he looked down at her. \u00a0Even in sleep, he could see the pain behind her features. \u00a0He could feel the edged pulse and burn of the flames still within her delicate frame. \u00a0What a fair facade, he thought, to house something so powerful and great within such lovely vessel. \u00a0He pressed a fevered kiss to her forehead, thankful for a moment where such actions would not be noted. \u00a0He had a reputation, after all.<\/p>\n

Then he carried her the rest of the way to his chambers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Half-aware of being carried, Summer roused enough to blink at Loki as they entered his rooms. “Where … ?” she managed, trying to look around. “This … ” She flailed a hand loosely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
