\u201c\u2018Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it\u2019,\u201d Summer quoted, softly. \u201cI sure hope you know what you\u2019re doing, liesmith.\u201d Closing her eyes, she spread one hand out in the air, reaching.<\/p>\n

There.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s someone here, alright.\u201d Thought and fear drew her wings to blazing life, casting brilliance over the barren rock. \u201cDo we go to them, or they to us?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cI am no coward,\u201d Loki spoke just above a whisper, mostly just to convince himself. \u00a0\u201dWe will find them. \u00a0Do you know how many?\u201d \u00a0He cursed his own magic for being so lacking in comparison to her abilities. \u00a0It was not his style to rely on others, but this would have to do. \u00a0<\/p>\n

He looked around quickly, wary. \u00a0The air hummed faintly, far off noises drifting to them in the heavy dark.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cTwo. Close together. A blur of others, pooling together, very faint. Almost \u2026 stuttering. As if they don\u2019t feel at all, or not much.\u201d Summer could feel the flame, pooling in her veins, waiting to be called into death.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you fly? I\u2019m pretty sure I can\u2019t carry you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He snorted. \u00a0\u201dThat would be convenient, but no. \u00a0We shall travel by foot.\u201d \u00a0We cannot all be Thor.<\/em> \u00a0He imagined her suspicions pointed to Thanos, some sort of bodyguard, and a grouping of his mindless followers. \u00a0<\/p>\n

And if his mind still served him, he knew exactly where they would be. \u00a0He had been there before. \u00a0The memory made him shiver. \u00a0\u201dCome.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The walk was long, and dull, and boring. Summer occupied herself tilting her head back to stare at the sky, trying to match the stars with anything familiar at all. It was a fruitless exercise, but better than watching the dull, lifeless rock and dirt surrounding them. She supposed it could be worse — whatever sun this place had could be up, rendering it blazingly hot. Or blindingly bright.<\/p>\n

It was possible, she mused, that there was no sun here. Just the cold, distant stars in the velvet black of space. How achingly lonely that would be. She shivered, and wrapped her arms around herself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
