\u201cI just said, \/ask\/.\u201d Summer arched an eyebrow at Loki, face stern, before stroking Cat\u2019s furry belly. \u201cBless his wee bones, he\u2019s fine. He\u2019s just verrrrry happy right now. Yes, silly Cat, your papa is all wound up over nothing.\u201d She tried to blow a raspberry on the black belly and ended up snorting fur instead, giggling.<\/p>\n

Nestling the relaxed Cat into the pile of pillows, she said, \u201cCatnip affects different cats differently; it\u2019s like liquor to humans that way. Some cats get hyper on it, like Doc; other cats get very relaxed. Stormlight gets chatty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hearing her name, the tiny tortoiseshell darted up, inspected Loki\u2019s shoes, then padded over to inspect Cat. Her tail began to wave gently, and she started to wash his ears.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cYou might have\u00a0warned <\/em>me.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 Loki said crossly. \u00a0\u201dI thought I\u2019d\u00a0killed<\/em> him! \u00a0Do all \u2018cat treats\u2019 produce such alarming effects?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cAs I recall, we got more than a little sidetracked last time.\u201d Summer folded her arms and glared at him. \u201cInteresting that you\u2019re this upset about it, though. You do know cats have short lifespans compared to humans, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cOf course I\u2019m upset,\u201d Loki snapped. \u00a0\u201dHe\u2019s Cat and I thought I had hurt him!\u201d He stopped and gave her a very hard look. \u00a0\u201dWhy mention that? \u00a0He is naught but a kitten.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Summer smacked herself in the forehead. “A little something about you not caring, I think it was. I’m just saying, if you’re this upset because you accidentally got him stoned — oh, never mind. Just never mind. Look, he’s fine.
