\u201cIt\u2019s fine, seriously. I\u2019ve seen crazier things, believe it or not,\u201d Jane said, and chuckled. \u201cBut that\u2019s\u2026 wow. That\u2019s really something.\u201d It was almost hard to believe that people like Jane or Layla or Charles existed; people with powers that were just natural to them. She was used to Thor, but he wasn\u2019t from his realm, and Bruce, but his had been artificial.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave you met Layla Ford?\u201d she asked. \u201cShe\u2019s a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. She\u2019s an empath, too. I don\u2019t know how well-known that is, but she doesn\u2019t usually hesitate to tell anyone.\u201d She shrugged, taking another bite from her doughnut. \u201cYou guys would probably get along.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

They\u2019d at least have something in common, right?<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, how\u2019d you decide on New York City to be your place of residence?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cWinter asked me to. I was already looking for somewhere else to go, really.\u201d She\u2019d known there were others; how do you not know something like that? The whole world had heard of Charles Xavier and his X-Men. \u201cI haven\u2019t actually met any other empaths yet. But NYC seems to be a hotspot for superheroes anyway. Winter did all the work, really.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Jane nodded, finishing off the doughnuts she was working on and washing it down with coffee. \u201cI\u2019m glad you\u2019re here. It\u2019s nice seeing another person from when I was younger,\u201d she said, and smiled. Really, Summer was the only person Jane had seen from when she was growing up since high school.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you\u2019re a web designer now?\u201d She picked up another doughnut, this one jelly-filled. \u201cHave you designed any websites I would\u2019ve seen?\u201d She grinned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“I kind of doubt it. My big project is a martial arts tournament site, but I do a lot of little consulting projects for people I know. That’s why I’m hoping to meet Tony, actually. If I can get him to let me get my hands on his site … oooh.” Summer flexed her fingers, pretending she was gripping the site, or maybe Tony.<\/p>\n

She grinned at Jane. “Or, you know, I can just get my hands on him. I know, I know, he’s an asshole. I know from assholes, though.” Pointing at Jane, she added, “You are lucky, to have someone who cares about you first and himself second. Anyway, it’s not that I’m hard up for money, but getting my name associated with Stark Industries would be a huge boost in a new area.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
