\u201cCAT!\u201d \u00a0It was a man\u2019s voice, and he was fairly bellowing as he clattered down the last flight of stairs. \u00a0\u201dSo help me, you\u2019re better be\u2014\u201d he emerged from the building and stopped abruptly at the sight of Summer and the little black kitten. \u00a0He was a tall man, built along graceful, long lines rather than powerful ones. \u00a0His black hair was swept back from his patrician face, and he wore slacks, button down shirt and a vest.

Summer\u2019s mouth twitched suspiciously. She glanced down at the feline lounging in the curve of one arm, then back up. \u201cYou let your human name you Cat?\u201d Shaking her head, she walked up to the man and offered the cat. \u201cHe\u2019s a friendly fellow, your Cat.\u201d Her eyes danced with laughter. \u201cMaybe a little too friendly, hey?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Loki took the kitten, cradling him in two long hands. \u00a0
\u201cHe keeps slipping out\u2014I have no idea how. \u00a0Magic, I think.\u201d \u00a0He was frowning down at the kitten\u2014who was unabashedly chewing on his cuffs\u2014speaking rather absently. \u00a0\u201d\u2026his name is actually Macrowafter, but he usually comes when I call \u2018cat\u2019.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“All cats have the magic of escape,” Summer said sagely. “Or at least, all the ones I’ve ever known, and that’s quite a lot!” She petted Cat’s nose softly. “They’re born stinkers.”<\/p>\n
