Y\u2019all know I\u2019m a big ol\u2019 homo, right?<\/p>\n

This year we have seen some amazing advances in LBGTQ rights. But there is still a long way to go. LBGTQ people are still regularly targeted with violence and abuse, particularly LBGTQ youth. Even with all our progress, being public ally out can be dangerous to your safety, your career, even your life.<\/p>\n

So this year I would like to send a special shout out to the people who can\u2019t come out yet, for whatever reason. NCOD is as much for you as anyone. Not everyone can afford to spend the emotional and social capital that is required to be out in our heteronormative and transphobic society. It\u2019s ok, it really is. Take care of yourself and never forget you are not alone.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I\u2019m hesitant to do this, because I don\u2019t know if it counts or not, but over the course of the last 6 months or so, I\u2019ve realized I\u2019m aromantic, which is part of the unaforementioned \u201cIA\u201d often tacked onto the end of LGBTQ. The A stands for Asexual\/Aromantic. Basically, I am still sexually interested in people, but have no romantic feelings and am not interested in romantic relationships with anyone, and no desire for people to express romantic feelings for me. Staying single for the rest of my life is the perfect scenario. Personally, I really don\u2019t even have any interest in actual sex, either, but I do still have sexual feelings and urges that I\u2019m more than happy to not involve other people helping me out with.<\/p>\n

Does that count? I don\u2019t want to piggyback on other people\u2019s day with something that angers them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It totally counts. Welcome to the family (but you have to stand over here and get ignored with the Bs, Ts, and Is – I saved you a seat)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
