{"id":5693,"date":"2014-08-18T04:24:45","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T04:24:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.firechildren.net\/lightfire\/iamthefirechild\/2014\/08\/18\/hedgehog-goulash7-unbelievably-ive-been\/"},"modified":"2015-02-20T07:09:58","modified_gmt":"2015-02-20T07:09:58","slug":"hedgehog-goulash7-unbelievably-ive-been","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.firechildren.net\/lightfire\/iamthefirechild\/2014\/08\/18\/hedgehog-goulash7-unbelievably-ive-been\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-5693 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='http:\/\/www.firechildren.net\/lightfire\/iamthefirechild\/2014\/08\/18\/hedgehog-goulash7-unbelievably-ive-been\/attachment\/5694\/'><img width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.firechildren.net\/lightfire\/iamthefirechild\/files\/2014\/08\/tumblr_nahiebp2wt1rna5m8o1_1280-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hedgehog-goulash7.tumblr.com\/post\/95066751244\/unbelievably-ive-been-seeing-some-people-on\" class=\"tumblr_blog\">hedgehog-goulash7<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Unbelievably, I\u2019ve been seeing some people on Tumblr criticizing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as \u201cjust another stupid celebrity stunt\u201d or as \u201cshameful wasting of water\u201d (um\u2026seriously??).\u00a0 One person even asked &#8211; after ripping on the Challenge &#8211; \u201cWhat is ALS?\u201d\u00a0 (As if we\u2019re not slumming around on the\u00a0 greatest information system in the history of the world \u2014 this little thing called the Internet \u2014 right now.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t know what something is, please, click a few times and look it up!)\u00a0 I really wish folks would educate themselves before shooting their mouths off.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t pontificate on what ALS is (please <em>do<\/em> look it up if you\u2019re unsure), but to those of us who have lost friends or relatives to it, what the Ice Bucket Challege is doing \u2014 raising both money AND awareness \u2014 is not a \u201cstupid stunt.\u201d\u00a0 It may be a PR stunt, sure, but it\u2019s one that has raised more awareness about this disease than just about anything else in history (one challenge that ALS researchers face is that the disease is just rare enough that there\u2019s relatively not a lot of money being thrown at finding treatment or a cure, so they do rely a lot on private donors and fund-raising\u2026).<\/p>\n<p>According to TheWrap.com, in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/chris-pratt-brian-grazer-gwen-stefani-jump-on-hollywood-bandwagon-taking-ice-bucket-challenge-video\/\">a story about the Ice Bucket Challenge<\/a><\/strong>: \u201cYou can\u2019t argue with results.
