The fear caused by Lord Argent and Sir Kit\u2019s sudden appearance went deep in her bones, and she couldn\u2019t rid herself of the thought that this was all just a dream, that she would wake to the dusty morning sunlight sifting in the cottage\u2019s sole window as a serf. \u201cDon\u2019t leave me,\u201d she whispered, when they got to his home. \u201cPlease don\u2019t leave me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But apparently her fear went deeper than he\u2019d originally presumed, and he allowed his steps to slow so that he could envelop her in his arms, absently chewing on his bottom lip. \u201cI\u2019m sorry for scaring you, Summer. It wasn\u2019t my intention\u2026\u201d But he was relieved that Sir Kit had remained oblivious to Summer\u2019s presence there, which enabled him to fight for her without fearing that she would be spotted. Or so he hoped. \u201cI\u2019ll never leave you, I promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She burrowed into his arms for a moment, feeling a little safer there, head tucked under his chin. She held him tightly, eyes shut, and then leaned back, pulling his head down and kissing him fiercely. Whatever happened tomorrow, she decided, she would have this night.
