Summer just turned her face into Isaac\u2019s abdomen, desperately wishing it would all just stop. \u201cWhy do you hate me so much?\u201d she whispered, knowing he wouldn\u2019t hear her.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“We\u2019ve not done that yet and I still love her — so what does that tell you?” He smirked knowingly and cuddled Summer to his stomach, running his fingers through her hair and hoping that the gesture comforted her, even a little bit. “Now go — or I really will be forced to do something that I regret. Or not, but I really don\u2019t want to be arrested for murder\u00a0again<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That took Jesse aback. “Fine,” he bluffed, trying to keep his angry face even though it was clear fear was replacing it. “Be her slave. Just remember I tried to help you. I tried to warn you.” He backed away, hands held up as if that would make them believe he hadn’t meant any harm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Summer curled herself tightly around Isaac, shuddering. She wanted to believe it was over, but even though Jesse was leaving, she knew the worst was probably yet to come.
