Summer yelped when he spun around, clinging more tightly. The pressure tweaked her ankle, too, the one that already hurt. Nerves made her tone sarcastic. \u201cCan I be put down before you start fighting? I don\u2019t want to bleed anymore than I already have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Someone growled softly, and then Gold-eyes interposed himself between Isaac and Derek, pulling one of her hands from around Isaac\u2019s neck. \u201cIsaac, I can smell blood.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“We\u2019re not fighting. I\u2019m\u2026I\u2019m protecting you,” he murmured defiantly, posture still tense as he nuzzled apologetically at her jawline, before pulling back and sighing deeply, wondering if such an affectionate gesture from him might disgust her right now.<\/p>\n

“Blood?” he echoed and stiffened, sniffing at the air before gazing down at her in panicked concern. “Summer? Did you hurt yourself badly when you fell?”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“I scraped my hands when I fell … ” She took her hand back and peered at it in the moonlight. There were dark streaks on her palm. “And I think I sprained my ankle. I might have cuts in other places … “<\/p>\n

“Were you bitten?” Red-eyes — Derek — snapped.<\/p>\n
