She smiled wistfully. “No, of course not. I beg your pardon.” Deliberately, she put some space between them. “I understand if you need to leave now. But you’re welcome to stay.”
“Really, I wouldn’t want to leave you alone so suddenly..I’m really sorry.” He tried a small smile.
“Don’t be. I expected it. Can you … tell me about that person?” She was hugging her knees to her chest, defensive, and couldn’t seem to stop. But at least she still had control of her voice.
“Person? What do you mean?” He asked, tilting his head slightly.
“The reason why you can’t. You have a person you love, right?”
Tom looked down, his brows furrowed as he took in a breath. “Yes, but..I um..” He found it hard to put it into words, he sighed again.
“But? If you love them, then I understand.” Summer hitched one shoulder. “There aren’t many people who can do like I do, loving so many people all at once.”
