Thank you! *slips inside and hesitates at the volume and number of people* Do you … have a particular place you sit? God, it’s crowded.

Nope. It is pretty full tonight. Let’s grab our drinks and try to find a place to sit. *leads her to the bar*

*orders a peach daiquiri and seems to huddle a little closer than normal personal space* I’ll follow your lead.

Yes. There is a bar several blocks from here that I like to frequent. Shall we? *offers her his arm*

*loops a hand through his arm again* Of course, sir. May I count on you to protect me from any uncouth men?

If that is the lady’s wish, then I would be remiss in my duty as a gentleman to not grant it. *starts walking*

I don’t think there’s likely to be any problem, really. Despite your so-firm opinion, I’m not like to attract any attention. *gives a self-deprecating laugh*

You lie. *smirks* If you’re with me, you’ll definitely attract attention.

Ahh, no. *smirks back* /You/ attract attention. I’ll be dismissed as some frantic hanger-on or some such. Or! More likely, someone much more interesting will catch your attention in there.

We’ll see. We’re here anyway, so *opens the door, and holds it for her* After you.

Thank you! *slips inside and hesitates at the volume and number of people* Do you … have a particular place you sit? God, it’s crowded.

The way he turned away, Summer wondered if she’d said something wrong. Well, maybe reminding a king of lack of freedom was a bit … cruel, actually. Brushing that extra sense against him, she nodded to herself. Best to apologise before damage was done.

She laid the bow down with respect, then whirled quickly and all but ran across the yard after Henry. “Highness?”

He turned to her as she called out to him and he blinked, “Yes lady?”

“If I have offended, please accept my apology.” Too late, she tried to check her steps and failed, nearly crashing into him.

“That’s when I come here,” Summer went on. She looked down at the arrows in her hands. “I can at least pretend to freedom here.” Most of them she could shoot again immediately. Good, because this conversation was starting to depress her. Striding back, kicking at her skirts as she went, she nearly snatched up the bow in her haste to turn her mind to different things.

With a quick gesture, she offered the bundle of arrows to Henry. “Will you shoot first?”

He stood back and smiled at her, “No, you may shoot, good day Lady.”

Henry stood back, and turned away from her, the manner in which she suggested there to be little freedom even for his own guests gave him cause to think and wonder on what he could do, or what could be done for it not to be so.

But he knew, better than all, that such things were not so easily rebelled against.

Sighing, Loki tipped his glass to one side, watching as the amber liquid moved about in the clear glass. Going out to bars wasn’t really his thing, it was more of Thor’s, but he figured what the hell. It wasn’t like he had anything else to do with his time tonight it seemed. Raising his drink, he let it sit against his lips for a few moments, listening to the radio that played in the background. It was one of those really bad country stations.

Perfect.

Oh well, it wasn’t like he’d come here for the music anyway. He’d almost forgotten what it was like to feel hurt, jealous… just a little jealous. He gulped down his drink and ordered another, laying his head down on the countertop as he ran a hand through his hair in frustration.

This sucked.

Summer thought she’d left twangy, horrible country stations behind, but she supposed when you picked a random bar in the city to try to get drunk at, you took what was there.

Dropping her backpack purse over the back of the barstool, she climbed up into the seat, caught the eye of the bartender, and ordered a daiquiri. First of the night. How many would it take before she could forget? Or at least mercifully blur the memories?

A quiet thunk drew her attention away from the images in her mind, and she glanced to the side to see the guy sitting next to her resting his head on the bar. Now that she was not self-absorbed, she could sense the hurt and upset radiating off him.

Reaching out, she touched his hand. “Hey, you okay?”
