“I just really want to stop thinking. Stop hurting. But it’s a cheat, if you — I mean, if I — anyway. It’s cheating. The pain will still be there afterward.” She sighed heavily. “No, if ever you bite me, it shouldn’t be an escape for me.”
Victor thought for a moment then looked her in the eye. “You deserve a reprieve though. It’s not cheating it’s”, he thought for a moment, trying to find the right words, “using your resources. You’d be letting me help you and allowing me to give you a break if only for a time. I’ll still be here afterwards to help you through everything. I won’t if you don’t want me to though.”
This time Summer shook her head positively. “There are better ways to distract myself.” Almost absently, she wove her fingers into Victor’s hair, pulling lightly and scraping at his scalp. “For one thing, I’ll need to pack some time tonight.”
Victor moaned and his eyes fluttered shut as she tugged at his hair. “Mmmmm, well, would you like to start packing now? Or later?” he asked, turning them as he posed the questions so that he could kiss her better.
“Mmh. In a bit. It won’t take long. Victor, darling … ” A familiar tingle traced her spine. “/That/ is distracting.” She combed her fingers through his hair, guiltily enjoying the softness of it.
