Summer hooked her elbows over the railing, looking down at the ice rink at Rockefeller Plaza. It was busy enough, swirling with people bundled in coats and scarves, gloves and hats. She leaned back on her heels a little, rocking in time to the music in her earbuds, singing softly under her breath. Her long braids shone copper-bright in the westering sunlight against grey wool, wrapped loosely about her petite figure.

She grinned at the person next her, feeling good and wanting to share it.

I can’t walk through life
facing backwards
I have tried
tried more than once
to just make sure
that I was denied
the future I’ve been searching for
I spun around
and hurt no more

“Boop.” Suzie spoke aloud, grinning at the red-haired woman beside her who seemed to be singing. She used her index finger to poke her, repeating the boop noise once again. “Hehe!” Suzie giggled with a warm, friendly smile on her face, though partially due to the fact that she was wrapped up in a scarves and coats although the woman’s openness and approachability was a contributing factor.

She patted down her rosy cheeks while gazing off into the far distance at the ice-skaters. “Sorry about that – I just kinda wanted your attention. Hehe! Oh this is gonna sound really weird but can you ice skate? Like properly cause well…I need a tutor of sorts and well…I’m not too good with finding those generally, most teachers seem rather mean lately but you looked nice so I thought I’d say hey – but I digress, can you ice skate?”

“A little.” Summer grinned back. “I don’t know that you want me for a teacher for proper skating, though. I’m a southern girl. My skates have wheels, mostly. But we could go down there and see what happens, anyway.” She held out a bare hand to the other person. “I’m Summer, and you are?”
