Victor stood at Summer’s front door, fidgeting. He had a bouquet of red and white roses in one hand. He raised his left hand and knocked on her door then returned his hand to his pocket where he double checked and reassured himself he’d remembered the tickets. It was 4pm, he was surprising her and showing up an hour and a half earlier before they had to leave for that reason.
To be honest, Summer had been ignoring Valentine’s Day for so long she’d forgotten what day it was. So when someone knocked on the door, she was still in her sleep clothes, curled up on the couch with a cat and a book. “Coming,” she hollered, startling Lil Doc, and padded over to the door, opening it and peering out curiously. “Hey, Victor.”
“Hey Summer,” he said, giving her an almost shy smile, “um, surprise, Happy Valentine’s Day.” Victor handed her the bouquet of roses then rocked back on his heels. “I was hoping you wouldn’t mind catching a show with me then headed back to my place for a late dinner?” He was most definitely out of his element here, he’d never taken anyone out for Valentine’s Day and he was hoping the night he had planned would be satisfactory.
Her mouth dropped open at the roses. “Oh, Victor! Oh, wow.” She buried her nose in the flowers, eyes closed in bliss. One hand flailed at his arm, grabbing him and pulling him inside. “Cold,” she explained. “Thank you. Wow.” She laid the flowers aside carefully and threw her arms around him. “Thank you so much.”
