Iron Man 3, movie review and PR event report

April 12th, 2014, Munich

So I’m probably the last internet publisher to respect the review embargo on the Iron Man 3 Munich footage but I hope you still have fun with the last of my pictures and my video edit. Find my previously posted text, picture and video material here:

I had an unforgettable day in Munich, doing my first professional journalism job in years. The local agency was doing a great, very professional job. Though the screening was timed very close to the talent arrival, the journalists had no problem attending both locations in time.

Robert won our hearts the moment he entered that photocall in that Lederhosen. Acclimating to bavaria perfectly with doing a Schuhplattler and making a bunch of Tony Stark moves, he turned me into a real fangirl in a matter of seconds. Robert is not playing this role, he is Tony Stark. Watch the above linked video edit for his famous sunglasses-off-stare. I’ve seldom seen an actor impersonating his character so much. At the same time he was behaving very down to Earth and polite, never losing his famous sense of sarcasm and humour but never being unfriendly.

Thanks to the limited number of attendants I was lucky enough to be in the first row for both photocall and conference. Though Robert and Gwyneth seemed to genuinely enjoy talking about their movie, there wasn’t really any news on it given away. You  know. Even Marvel’s secrets have secret. Still the actors entertained us with stories from the set and from their career, like Gwyneth’s son adoring them both for wearing the suits and them both being Audi fans in real life too. Robert made sure to praise the journalists for their good questions (can you see me blush? I hope no one else did) and both of them were very relaxed, talking to a not too crowded and very reserved audience who avoided any private questions and went deep into the movie content instead.

Aside from the honor to meet actors of one of my favorite fictions all time, I’m impressed by the way they selled it. Robert won my heart before I could even stand up and pose my question to him and Gwyneth is an overly likable, reliable worker, never showing any sign of discomfort when Robert clearly was the center of the attention and lengthily answering the few question posed to her. And the woman fangirls his ass and chest as much as we do, so that can never be bad, right?

Since the press conference has been widely published in quotes, pictures and videos on tumblr already I won’t bother with another long report of the q&a but give you merely the two questions I asked Robert and Downey and their answers. Click this

I love it how Gwyneth smiled while talking to me. She’s probably happy someone asked her something since most reporters concentrated on Robert only. These two guys made me feel very welcome and I’m truly thankful for that.

Yet of course there wasn’t only the PR meeting but also the screening of the press footage. As a die-hard fiction fan and movie reviewer, that part was what I came for. I left that cinema just as overly flashed as back then when I’d seen The Avengers. I’m putting my review under a cut so no one who doesn’t want to know will be spoilered.
