Her heart jolted as he came entirely too close to the truth for comfort. “Something like that,” she admitted, with a sideways smile meant to imply that she was joking.
Hearing her heartbeat quicken, Jackson simply furrowed his brow in response. Since he was a supernatural being, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to find out she was something as well, almost like they were drawn to each other but he decided to not dwell on it too much. “I’m assuming you’re pretty smart then? Knowing all those spells must take a lot of brain power.”
“I am pretty smart, but it has nothing to do with spells.” Summer wished now she’d never made the joke. She didn’t want to have to explain what she really was. “Why memorise spells when simply imposing my will on the world works so much better?”
