“That depends on what you want to do. Are you building a new system, or just trying to back up the one you already have? Plus,” she glanced at the drive he was holding, “if you’re trying to back up a lot of media, like music or movies, that one probably isn’t big enough. It’s a question of exactly what you need. Do you need the data to be backed up on a regular basis, like a business, or maybe you take a lot of photos you don’t want to lose, or are you just making an ‘oh shit’ drive for things like tax returns and mortgage scans?”
[ The adult would not even know where to begin with
building something like that from scratch. Despite
having owned some type of computer for the
majority of his life thus far, he does not consider
himself to be a technology savvy individual. Just
a person who is more than capable of making use
of common programs and toying with a few of the
customization options. All he currently needs to do
is ensure that a handful of highly important files are
backed up so that he does not lose them should
something go wrong for some unpredictable reason.
As that is the case, he is already prepared to handle
any questions this knowledgeable stranger dishes out. ]❝ I was just looking to backup some of my documents. ❞
“In that case this will be perfect. As long as you remember to update the backups!” Summer laughed a little. “I’m terrible at that; I end up with three copies, all from different dates, in four different locations. But since I’m kind of paranoid about losing the data, it’s okay. I know I’ll be able to recover most of it.”
