Behind the Scenes of The Day of the Doctor
Excerpts from Benjamin Cook’s interview with David and Matt from DWM #467
DWM: David, can we talk about your fringe? You’re wearing it down in this episode. What are we to read into that?
David: Nothing. No. Well, we’re mixing it up. Otherwise, business as usual. This isn’t the sort of part where you can change your look that often. You have a different tie now and again
Matt: That’s a different tie?
David: It’s a slightly different tie, although very much from the same palette. [Laughs] The shirt’s quite different.
Matt: Is it?
David: No.Matt: John Hurt was saying some nice things earlier, actually, about me and you, which made me smile.
David: Was he? What was he saying?
Matt: He says that we should do a revue together. He keeps saying that. Can you tell me what a revue is?
David: I’m not entirely sure. I think they ran out a bit before our time. Kenneth Williams used to do them.
Matt: Right. Okay. Well, John was saying that we make a good, y’know… He said, ‘As actors, you think at the same speed.’ At which point I started going, ‘Oh yeah? Go on? You’re talking about our acting?’ He was saying very nice things. And then I said something stupid, probably.
David: If John Hurt even knows my name, I’m proud.
Matt: Same here. I’m quite pleased.
David: The very fact that I can now say I’ve worked with him. He’s been a delight. The rest of the behind-the-scenes photosets are available here
