Derek was a little startled at the sudden hug and rush of emotion, though he caught her and tentatively patted her back soothingly, still a tad bit stunned at the force of her gratitude but glad he could help and make someone feel so thankful.
She wasn’t sure how long she’d been asleep, but Derek was no longer in the room and the space he’d been in was cold and flat. She wasn’t quite sure what had woken her, either. Tension tightened her shoulders. Laying the book aside, she crept off of the bed and to the top of the stairs.
Derek was with someone else — someone who was like him. She could feel the wildness in them both, and a connection. Moving as silently as possible, she slipped down the stairs, damp red hair framing her face and green eyes wide. She kept to the shadows, watching the two werewolves, a little frightened again.
Derek and Isaac were sitting in the living room on the couch, just talking. Isaac stayed with Derek some nights when Scott wanted to have some time with just his girlfriend, his mom usually being on call at times like that. He heard Summer coming down the stairs, though faint, but her heartbeat and silence made it seem like she was scared of something. Derek assumed it was Isaac. He just let himself stay relaxed, having told Isaac that he had his own guest but it wouldn’t be a problem for him to crash the night.
The two had an easy friendship with comfortable proximity. Half the time they’d end up wrapped up together on the couch watching movies and keeping each other warm. There was a great deal of easy touching in his pack, helping their bonds grow strong.
Summer watched for a little while. It sounded like the other person was going to stay, and she wondered if that meant she would have to leave. It was disappointing, but after eating, bathing, and sleeping — not to mention the clean clothes — she supposed she’d taken enough from Derek. She’d been fine on her own before; she could do it again.
She slipped up to kneel by the couch, just the other side of the arm where Derek was sitting, and peeked around the edge at them. The boy seemed nice enough, though there was something oddly broken about him. He had light hair and blue eyes, long limbs and an engaging smile. He seemed to be very close to Derek, and she found herself a little jealous.
