She pushed the hood back again to stare at him, embarrassment tinting her cheeks. Then she flung herself at him in a huge hug, radiating gratitude overwhelmingly.

Derek was  a little startled at the sudden hug and rush of emotion, though he caught her and tentatively patted her back soothingly, still a tad bit stunned at the force of her gratitude but glad he could help and make someone feel so thankful.

She tilted her head at them both, and frowned slightly, sliding her gaze away. They shared a bed? With the use of the word ‘pack’, she imagined it as a pile of puppies. That might not be so bad. ‘Is there more pack?’ she wrote. ‘Maybe there won’t be room for me.’

And if he had this whole pack to care for, what was he doing wasting time on her? She turned her gaze back to Isaac, crawling around Derek’s feet to look up at the younger werewolf more closely. She wanted to stay with Derek. Perhaps, if she won others over, she could do that.

“There is more pack,” Derek said with a small smile as she crawled around his legs. “But they don’t spend the night much. They’re always welcome here but Isaac spends the night whenever he wants to,” he said as he patted his knee. Isaac smiled softly at her, not really moving around because he didn’t want to startle her.

Reclaiming the paper, she wrote, ‘you don’t mind?’ and showed it to Isaac. She watched carefully as he read it for any sense of rejection, any possible suggestion that he would prefer she wasn’t there.
