She pushed the hood back again to stare at him, embarrassment tinting her cheeks. Then she flung herself at him in a huge hug, radiating gratitude overwhelmingly.

Derek was  a little startled at the sudden hug and rush of emotion, though he caught her and tentatively patted her back soothingly, still a tad bit stunned at the force of her gratitude but glad he could help and make someone feel so thankful.

Pressing her lips together, she nodded a little. She didn’t understand these people, but they were so determined. Maybe it was something to do with being werewolves? But Derek had said there were more than wolves in their pack — which also didn’t make sense.

She just really didn’t want to push herself where she wasn’t wanted. She huffed a little sigh, and then her stomach growled.

Loudly.

She buried her face against his knee and tried not to combust from embarrassment.

Isaac relaxed at the nod though she looked determined that it wouldn’t work. He knew she’d see. Derek had been listening from downstairs and grinned as he heard Isaac talking to her. When he heard Summer’s stomach growl, he grinned wider and heard Isaac chuckle. “Come on then,” Isaac said to her, gently taking her waist and standing her up straight before him, then getting up himself. “Let’s go coerce Derek into cooking dinner for us, he’s actually a wonderful cook, don’t ever let him tell you different,” he said, and stepped to the side so she could go out first.

The boy pulled her up so easily, even before standing up. She couldn’t decide how that made her feel. Neither one really seemed like they would hurt her, not on purpose, but even with her gift trusting was hard. Summer chewed on her lip and went down the stairs before Isaac, eyeing Derek a little sideways. Her stomach growled again, and she wrapped her arms around her middle, flushing.
