There didn’t seem to be much to say to that. After a moment, determined to recapture the mood, she said brightly, “Hard to invade where you’ve been invited. Mom will be disappointed if you don’t come to dinner, anyway.”
“…I’m meeting your mom?” he squeaked and gazed at her with an expression of horrified awe, terrified of screwing up and embarrassing her, but eager to meet someone so important in Summer’s life.
