Vex let out a choked sound, not sure how to really respond to Summer’s words. They weren’t close, barely knew each other, and who in their right bloody mind would trust somebody in that regard when they’d only just met? Snickering slightly, he purred the words, “Never woulda expected to ‘ear that from a pretty thing like you.”
Sensing his honesty, she relaxed, letting go of him and closing her eyes. She took a deep breath, letting him have her wrist, letting that hold re-establish the mood. Then she swayed forward, body relaxed and pliable, and kissed him softly, turning it into a plea.Seeing Summer relax, the thought briefly flickered through Vex’s mind. ‘Do I really deserve her trust, after everything that I’ve done?’ The second, follow-up thought was clearer: ‘And she doesn’t even bloody know.’ He had no intentions of hurting her, of course, but things had happened before, when he’d lost his sanity for just one too many seconds, and so there was always the risk. As she pressed her lips against his, he couldn’t help but smile as he returned it. He let the thoughts slip away as he took each of her wrists and held them against the bed, gentle for the moment.
Summer held herself into an arch, arms pulled back in his grip but body still pressed as close to him as possible. Whatever that flicker of fear was, she’d watch out for him. Not against him, but over him. Guarding him. And her own flicker of thought was more a helpless plea of, ‘Oh, not again. I can’t, again, so soon … ‘
“Are you trying to tame me again, Vex?” she purred. “Hairpulling doesn’t work, so now you’re going to just hold me down?”
