“Oh,” she sighed, “the stories all tell like it’s some kind of bliss, so your, um, victims don’t want to run away screaming. It was a stupid idea, really.”
Victor’s eyebrows shot up a bit. “Well, if you’re into it, the feeling is fantastic. The feeling of bliss depends on the vampire I suppose and how they release the endorphins. In all honesty, I’ve never bitten anyone that wasn’t a vampire. The people I feed from have all been contracts I’ve had so I never worried about them running away.”
Summer opened her mouth, hesitated, then said, “I was going to say, that’s cheating, but on the whole I think I prefer you, um, eat that way. Never mind.” Leaning her forehead on his, she stroked the back of her fingers down his cheeks. “Love you.”
Victor chuckled a little bit then smiled. “Did you want me to bite you?” He ran his hands up and down her sides and gave her a quick kiss, humming contentedly at her words. “Love you too.”
“I just really want to stop thinking. Stop hurting. But it’s a cheat, if you — I mean, if I — anyway. It’s cheating. The pain will still be there afterward.” She sighed heavily. “No, if ever you bite me, it shouldn’t be an escape for me.”
