Summer laughed at him. “Oh, you don’t scare me, Johnny-boy. You do your best, soldier boy, and we’ll see how it goes. Can a man like you seduce a woman like me?” She flicked the baby fireballs up into the sky, fwipfwipfwip, and immediately dropped into a flat dive, calling behind her, “Catch me if you can!”

Johnny deflamed, dropping into a spinning free fall before igniting again sending him rocketing downward in an explosion of flickering flames.

“Ooooowwwwowooooooo!” He howled like a wolf, then laughed into the wind as he began gaining on her. He imagined this was what fighter pilots felt when having dog fights in the air.

Summer kept diving, headed straight for the ground, and pulled up at the last second to shoot out into Central Park, dodging trees. Just for kicks, she snagged a high tree branch and used it to pull a half-loop, arrowing back along the park upsidedown. Johnny’s laughter reached her ears, and she giggled, weaving along the paths to find the lake.
