Isaac shrunk back, curling into a ball against the wall. He wasn’t entirely sure what was going on himself…. Fear and pain poisoned his body as he tried his best not to cry. After hearing a familiar voice he glanced up “No-he’ll hurt you! D-Don’t” It was no use, she was already stood between the scared wolf and this brute of a man. Isaac felt a tear escape down his cheek as the man grabbed the girl, tossing her to the floor in one, effortless motion.
Shaking with reaction, Summer let the fire fade from her hands, wondering. She hadn’t known she could do that — any of that. A soft sound from behind her made her whirl, and then her eyes glittered with tears. “Oh,” she said quietly, “oh honey. No. No no no. Come here.” She pulled at Isaac, putting her arms around him. “He’s gone. Shhhh. It’s okay now. It’s okay. Are you hurt?”
Isaac leaned closer to her, shaking slightly as she comforted him. “W-who was he?” he asked in a broken voice, looking up at her with lost eyes. “I can’t do this anymore,” he mumbled with tears in his eyes “I’m worthless…I can’t fix this now…I can’t fix it.” He started to panic as his heart rate started to pick up. He took in rapid breaths and looked into a blank space…he seemed to be having a panic attack.
“I don’t know who he was — a hunter, I think. An assassin of some kind.” Summer stroked his hair. “Shhh, shh, it’s okay. Breathe, honey. Listen to me.” She put her fingers under his chin and made him look at her. “Come on. Come on, we need to get you out of here.” Much more gently than she’d done with the hunter, she brushed him with her power, easing down his panic.
