Summer stumbled back a few steps, new instinct spreading her wings for balance. Hastily, she dumped the emotion she’d drawn off Lex into shields, blocking out the physical pain doubling the other girl over. “Lex? Lex?! Should it hurt you that muc—YIKES!”

Skipping aside from the sparks, she knelt beside Lex, resting a hand on her shoulder. “Hey. Hey, Lex!”

Lex felt Summer’s hand on her shoulder and she groaned slightly as she opened her eyes. “Sorry, I-” she tried to sit up at least, but she was feeling quite dizzy. A week without magic, her body seemed to have gotten used to it, and now it felt strange again. However, Lex managed to do it, but she had to close her eyes and breathe in deep immediately. “That must’ve been a bit creepy for you, what?” Lex mumbled, her face now also covered in sweat apart from the tears she had shed.

“Let me… get used to have the power of magic flowing through me again…”

Trying to keep a steady breathing, Lex slowly opened her eyes. She felt… strong. Complete. She was still feeling lightheaded, and she didn’t dare to stand up yet, but she liked to be able to feel the magic again.

“Oooh.” Summer’s eyes rounded at the flood of relief Lex felt. “Your magic is … really different from mine. It’s literally part of you physically, isn’t it. That’s amazing.”

She knelt carefully beside Lex, watching over her. “You’re going to be okay now. That’s one worry eased, right? So now you can go be honest to Magnus, and be able to protect yourself. Right?”

“Of course you do.” Summer ran her hand down Lex’s hair. Fire, for this, later. “You will, but first you have to help yourself. Can’t ease him all tied in knots yourself, now can you?”

She wondered how long, exactly, the other girl had been holding on to this, thinking that refusing the tears made her strong. In Summer’s experience, that only led, in the end, to an overflowing explosion that made things worse before they got better. But maybe she was biased.

Lex looked up to Summer, her eyes swimming in tears. “How? How am I going to help me?” she asked, her voice nearly hoarse from sobbing. “I regret so many things…”

It was then when something sharp struck her in deep of her stomach. Her body stiffened, and Lex gasped. Dalie’s curse was breaking. Her magic was coming back. Finally. “Summer… let go!” she choked out the words, pushing Summer away from her. She didn’t know what would happen now or if she would hurt Summer in any way if she stayed so near to her. “My magic… it’s coming back!” Lex fell onto her knees, and it felt like something pushed her onto all fours. The energy was running with full force through her system, bringing everything in her back to life. Lex coughed, and a kind of fluid and misty and blue substance came out of her mouth. Straightening up onto her knees again, sparks shot out of her hands, before she gave a final loud gasp, collapsing on the ground. Thank gods she had pushed Summer away…
