“Harmless and innocent!” she declared, eating popcorn herself. “And adorable. I’m a cat, meow, not a minx.”

“Harmless and innocent,” Victor muttered as he shook his head, grinning. “You are adorable however, little kitten,” he said as he chuckled a bit and kissed her shoulder.

Summer declared, “I try. Can’t you see my halo?” She pointed above her head, cocking her head side to side. “Everyone always wants to assume the worst of me. Mrrrr.”

“Yeah, your horns are holding up your halo darling.” Victor snorted before patting her reassuringly on her arm. “I don’t think those are your worst qualities dear, I think they’re some of your more endearing qualities.”

“Ack! Horns? What horns? I’m a perfect little angel!” She groped around on top of her head, giggling.

“All right, all right,” she smiled. Grabbing a handful of popcorn, she tried to feed it to him over her shoulder, squirming a little against him. “Why do you always call me a minx?”

He pulled himself up to take her offering of popcorn and chewed. Victor smirked at her question. “Because you’re just as mischievous and just as much trouble as one,” he said, his tone affectionately teasing.

“I always start it,” she riposted, poking him again. Cheerfully, she kidnapped his Dr. Pepper and put it on the other side of the popcorn, hopefully out of Victor’s reach. Then she claimed more of the couch and munched popcorn at Victor.

Victor calmed down after a few moments then mock glared at Summer. His appearance almost boyish as he pouted before he grabbed the popcorn and pulled her down to lay in front of him on his couch, which was slightly wider than hers, giving them a little more room. He handed her back the popcorn and rested his arm across her side. “There, now we can share.” Victor just barely managed not to poke his tongue out at her.

Summer giggled, trying to smash the popcorn inside her shirt so it would fall out. “Hey, don’t yell in my ear. Ow.” She poked him hard in the side with a fingernail.

Victor gave a surprising yelp and half fell to the other side of the couch in a fit of laughter. His face cracked by a wide grin. “You s-started it,” he managed between fits of laughter.

“Clever Victor, has his whole house wired up electronically. You’ll be installing an AI next,” she teased, curling herself sideways into his arms. “I shall have to think of something useful for you to do with all that money, since clearly you spend so much on frivolity.”

“I have thought about an AI,” he said half jokingly, “Yeah, after I bought the house and my car and did some remodeling most of my money has just been sitting.” He shrugged and let out a sigh against her neck before kissing it chastely. He was, admittedly, hardly paying much attention to the movie and was rather focusing on the feeling of having her near him. Victor grabbed some popcorn then popped open his Dr. Pepper. He’d seen this movie many a time and at one point had the entire thing memorized. He chuckled at a particular part in the movie where D’Artagnan was in the pub with the other Musketeers.

Summer cuddled a little deeper, smiling. “I do wish one of these movies had reproduced the scene from the book. D’Artagnan is such a little fool in the book. Over such little things. At least, you know, later on it’s duelling over a woman.” Sneakily, she tried to put popcorn down Victor’s shirt.

“Fool wha-HEY!” Victor couldn’t help but laugh when she put the popcorn down his shirt. In retaliation he grabbed a few kernels of popcorn and put them down her shirt before tickling her. “Minx,” he shouted affectionately.

Summer giggled, trying to smash the popcorn inside her shirt so it would fall out. “Hey, don’t yell in my ear. Ow.” She poked him hard in the side with a fingernail.

Unwrapping the package, Summer called back, “That’s fine.” She stuffed it in the microwave and started the timer, then fished a soda out of the fridge. “Should I get you a drink?”

“Sure, Dr. Pepper should be in the fridge, if you could get me one that’d be great,” Victor called back as he got the movie queued up. He rearranged the pillows on the couch so that they were bunched up on one side of the couch then sat down. “You don’t need any help do you love?” Victor asked out of politeness more than anything.

Two cans cradled in her elbow and the bowl of popcorn balanced on the other hand, Summer came back in. “No, I’ve got it.” Neatly she deposited her goodies on the table, then sat down on Victor like it was her rightful place.

“Oi!” He cried out in mock indignation. Then he smiled and pulled her in closer to him so that he could rest his head on her shoulder. Victor pulled his phone out and hit a button; almost immediately the lights went out. He pressed play and the movie started. Teasingly, he nuzzled at her neck but was content to have her in his arms again. “Thanks for joining me tonight love.”

“Don’t get used to it,” she murmured. “I like the surprise. It’s the one from when you were young.” She unwound herself and picked it back up, touching a fingertip to Victor’s face. “Anyway, I thought there was going to be a movie?”

Victor smirked a little at her response. “Well I guess it’s a good thing I like your surprises then.” His eyes saddened for a moment, thinking of his childhood friend. Jakober had been his only friend at the Institute and every now and again they saw each other but things had turned out too differently for them. Victor’s eyes brightened then, “Of course.” He turned around with the remote in hand and turned the fairly big TV hanging on the wall in front of the couches on, quickly launching Netflix. “Care for anything to eat or drink darling?” he asked while he scrolled through Netflix.

“Just tell me where the popcorn is,” she replied, starting to wander through the doorway. “And try not to pick anything in the horror genre. I’d like to sleep tonight.”

“First hanging cabinet on the left, second shelf.” He continued to scroll through all of the movies for another moment, “Love? How ‘bout The Three Musketeers?”
