Summer sighed. “I’ve given up arguing, why are we still talking about this?”
“Sorry love, I was just trying to make you understand it wasn’t just a ‘cool cat, want’ kind of thing without any prior knowledge.”
“Okay. Okay.” Summer ran her hands through her hair. “I just don’t like to think of wild animals as pets — no matter how good you are to them, it’s never going to be the same.”
“I’m not stopping you. I wash my hands of it. You do what you like.” She shook her head.
“Have I irritated you love?”
“You have, a little. I guess I just don’t understand this sudden … thing.”
“Well, at the Institute we trained animals for combat, mainly dogs and hawks but I’ve been missing that….that kind of companionship. And I figured that now that I was at this property and it has a lot more land than my others, that I could get a pet or two.”
Summer sighed. “I’ve given up arguing, why are we still talking about this?”
“Is this a vampire thing, or a Victor Roth thing? Because it’s starting to be absurd.”
“Wot? Cos I want two ocelots? I don’t think it’d be fair of me to have one and it be lonely or only have me for company is all. Personally, I’d like someone that looked like me to play with too instead of some creepy two-legged predator.”
She threw her hands up. “I wash my hands of the whole enterprise. I’ll still come over, but I’m not sure I want to hear about any problems.”
“In answer to your question, I think it’s a vampire thing. Much like humans like having domesticated animals, vampires like having other predators around, they keep us company. I could do it, I could take care of two.”
“I’m not stopping you. I wash my hands of it. You do what you like.” She shook her head.

She blinked a couple times. “You just came up with the idea. And you want to go now? Do you even know what an ocelot kitten needs?”
“Well, I have a pretty big backyard with lots of trees and it’s enclosed. I know they need special formula, should be fed every three hours or so. I’ll keep them in the house for the first few weeks so that nothing hurts them and then as they get bigger they’ll be able to run around a lot more in the yard.”
“Oh it’s /them/ now?” Summer smacked her forehead.
Victor actually blushed a little. “Well, I’d hate for one of them to be lonely y’know?”
“VICTOR!”
Victor’s eyes went wide at her voice. “Wot?” He asked, his accent much more pronounced.
“Is this a vampire thing, or a Victor Roth thing? Because it’s starting to be absurd.”

“Well, now, that assumes we’ll still be together then, doesn’t it?” She looked down, then back up. “I know it seems like a long time, but we’ve only been seeing each other for about a month. I’m still a little surprised to wake up and find you in my bed sometimes.”
Victor looked down a little. “Yeah, I’d hope we’d still be together but even if we weren’t I’d hope we would at least still be friends love.”
“Hope,” she echoed. “Yes, hope, but it’s been the other way often enough that I don’t count on it. One day at a time, yes?” She brushed her fingertips down his face. “Raise your kitten, and what happens is what happens.”
Victor leaned into her hand a bit then nodded. “Would you like to come meet him once I get him?”
“I was thinking I’d come with you to pick him up. Or maybe her. Girl cats are nice too.”
“Brilliant. I was actually hoping to stop by sometime today, or are you busy?”
She blinked a couple times. “You just came up with the idea. And you want to go now? Do you even know what an ocelot kitten needs?”
