“Well, now, that assumes we’ll still be together then, doesn’t it?” She looked down, then back up. “I know it seems like a long time, but we’ve only been seeing each other for about a month. I’m still a little surprised to wake up and find you in my bed sometimes.”
Victor looked down a little. “Yeah, I’d hope we’d still be together but even if we weren’t I’d hope we would at least still be friends love.”
“Hope,” she echoed. “Yes, hope, but it’s been the other way often enough that I don’t count on it. One day at a time, yes?” She brushed her fingertips down his face. “Raise your kitten, and what happens is what happens.”
“I’m positive I can change your mind, love.” Victor said, radiating hope and happiness. “They’re brilliant majestic creatures, Summer, and with proper training an ocelot would be a great pet for us…me, I mean me.”
“Bit like you.” Her mouth twisted in a sideways smile. “You don’t have to have my permission.”
Victor smiled an almost boyish smile. “Like I said, I want you to be comfortable when you come over, not looking over your shoulder wondering if my cat is going to pounce on you.”
“Victor, darlin’.” She shook her head and smiled. “All you have to do is let it outside. While it’s a kitten I’m sure it will be okay.”
He smiled, “And you promise to still come over even when he’s not a little kitten anymore?”

“Why don’t you put off the ocelot for a few weeks until we see how that goes? Ocelots do breed. Maybe you can change my mind.”

“Oh, don’t you make pity kitty eyes at me. I am immune, boyo. Not where my kitties go, okay? I don’t know why you suddenly decided you needed my permission.”
“Alright…Well in all honesty, I was hoping you’d come round my house a little more often and I wouldn’t want to have to put my pet away or have you scared of something when you came by.”
“Oh?”
“Go on.”
“It’s just as I said, I’d like it if you came by my place a bit more. I’m going to be personalizing it a bit and there’s no point in making it look nice if I don’t have someone to show it to.” His speech was a little hurried and somewhat bashful.

“Well, I did poke around a bit and they have been domesticated. An’ just think, he could be protective of you, love.”
“Excuse you? I need protection?”
“No, that’s not what I meant. I meant as opposed to eating you he’d be protective….Like me I suppose.” He said the last part half jokingly.
“Diggin’ a deeper hole, Victor darlin’,” she drawled. “Ocicats. Just like ocelots, but tamer and smaller. Less likely to maim unsuspectin’ folk. You want an ocelot, you get yourself some place somewhere I don’t ever go and keep it there.”
“I don’t have the same connection to ocicats…. I saw this really nice ocelot while I was out for a walk and I wanted to take him home…”

“They’re wild animals, Victor darling. Why don’t you do a little more research beyond ‘OMG so cute!’?”
