Summer wishes she’d known that this episode was the start of the romantic subplot between Mamoru and Usagi — she feels weird now, inviting Stiles to watch that. Would she feel weird about it if he was just a friend to her? Maybe she should have done Doctor Who anyway, instead; there were no romantic subplots in that. She gets up to close the video program, and hesitates at the computer, before saying, over her shoulder, “So, um, what do you want to do now?”

Stiles is sort of paying attention to the program, but not because there’s romance, it’s because he doesn’t really understand. His mind is still absently swirling with the events from that day, something he prefers not to occur because he doesn’t necessarily want a headache. He was prone to headaches so easily, it was horrendous. The thing that brings him out of his thoughts is when the computer closes and he looks at her in confusion.

“Done already?”

She swings a foot at him. “You weren’t even paying attention!  Aaaagh. What even are you thinking about?”

“Dork,” she repeats, and shoves him again, gently. She lies quietly beside him after that, though, watching the episode. It’s nice, just spending time with Stiles. Lately she feels they don’t get to do that enough.

“Yeah, yeah, I know,” he says in reply, lowering his head and laughing a little when she shoves him in that manner. He raises his hand from it’s dangling position after a moment, glancing up at the episode screening on her computer for them to watch. It’s nice.

“I’m guessing it’s because you want to,” Stiles says in reply, smiling a little more after he does so.

Too girly for /him/, she meant, but whatever. She lifts her eyebrows at him slightly. “I’m not that closed down, I can still tell when you’re not as enthused as you’re trying to make me think.” She flops down on the pillows next to him, trying not to touch. After what happened earlier, she’s not sure what that would set off.

His eyebrows raise and he looks at her with almost the same expression. “What? I’m just trying to support the stuff you love, y’know?” That’s what friends did, right? At least, that’s what Stiles thought they did. He thought he was a good friend, sure, a little bit of a shithead at some points, but far from a bad friend. Stiles moves to give her some room when she flops down on the space before him, a friendly smile coming on his face.

She pulls all the pillows off her bed to make a divan for them, flashing him a smile. “Of course we didn’t watch it then! It’s … kinda girly. Well, I mean, it’s about girls, but it’s — ” She stumbles to a halt, rolling her eyes and laughing at herself. Starting the episode, she pokes him in the side. “You know I hate it when you pretend.”

Their friendship is close, Stiles notes, because he definitely wouldn’t do this type of thing with just any girl. He snorts a little, shaking his head because he knows what she means. “I know what you’re saying, trust me. It was too girly for you back then, but it’s totally okay now,” he says in reply, laughing a little afterward. When his laughter fades, he looks at her in confusion, but not too much of it.

“Oh, come on,” she scoffs. “We used to watch anime all the time, remember? They decided to remake the original one for the twentieth anniversary, with the animation closer to the original manga … ” Summer bubbles on about it, telling Stiles all kinds of details he probably doesn’t actually care about and leading him into the house. Her bedroom is at the far end of the hall, painted a cheerful pale yellow, and she dumps her backpack on the floor to load the episode on her computer.

“We used to, but we never watched that one,” Stiles says in reply, watching her with those eyes of his. “But seriously?” he continues on in reply, smiling at her with that look on his face. “That’s totally badass!” he expresses, mainly because his friend is excited about something. There’s no reason he can’t at least pretend to be excited, right? Of course not. They wander along into her house together, dumping their backpacks on the floor together and smiling just slightly at the same time.

“Run away from myself,” she admits wryly. “Uh … I haven’t seen the latest episode of Sailor Moon Crystal, if you want to … ? Or the latest Doctor Who, for that matter. I really like Capaldi, he’s going to be a great Doctor.”

He cocks an eyebrow in interest at her when she says that. It sounds rather sad, but she changes the subject before he can even question it. Stiles shrugs at her, not dismissing it, but no pushing excessive excitement either. “I don’t watch either of those, but…I’d probably rather Sailor Moon Crystal. Or…whatever that is. Doctor Who isn’t my thing. Yes, I know, big shock.”

Winter closes her eyes, and her hands close a little tighter, and then there’s a thump of displaced air that blows Summer’s hair everywhere and they’re standing under a tree in the Rainaults’ front yard instead of at Sky High. Winter lets go of both their hands and goes into the house without saying a word, leaving Summer and Stiles standing awkwardly together.

“I, um, I could use a little help with the math homework?” Summer offers, which is only the truth, but then again if Stiles is there maybe nobody (read: her mother) will ask her about school in depth and she can get away with not talking about her backlash episode.

Stiles had been through this at least once, but he still never got over the odd sensation of going through this every single time. It was strange, one minute he was at Sky High and then another he was down on the ground at home. Or…at least he was close to it. Winter disappears, releasing their hands and disappearing inside the house to leave Stiles and Summer in place.

He glances over at her, laughing absently. “Honestly, I really don’t feel like doing math right now. Do you wanna do something else instead?” he questions curiously, looking at her with bright eyes. Well, as bright as amber eyes could possibly get, anyway.

“Run away from myself,” she admits wryly. “Uh … I haven’t seen the latest episode of Sailor Moon Crystal, if you want to … ? Or the latest Doctor Who, for that matter. I really like Capaldi, he’s going to be a great Doctor.”

“Come on, then,” Winter directs, circling the table to stand in front of them. She holds out her hands, and Summer pulls her backpack over one shoulder and takes her twin’s hand.

“Don”t tell mom,” she says, “okay?”

Winter gives her a ‘don’t be stupid’ look, and snaps her fingers at Stiles. “Come on, Stilinski, the sun is shifting.”

Stiles grabs his own backpack and hurries after them, “Yeah, yeah, I’m coming! Don’t rush me.”

He sounds annoyed, but everyone knows he’s not. He’s just the dramatic teen he always was, making things seem worse than they really were.

She turns her head and grins at him, face webbed over with a lacing of red hair.

“Summer!” Winter walks up, tidy and fashionable and beautiful as always, and frowning at her twin. “I thought you agreed to go to the nurse if something happened in class.”

Summer blows out a sigh, and says, muffled, “I never agreed to that, y’all just assumed because I didn’t argue.”

Winter rolls her eyes, the same shade of green as her twin’s. “Do you need a lift home, Stiles?” she asks. “Because I’m ready to go, and if you guys don’t come now you’ll have to wait until the club bus takes everyone else home.”

It takes a moment before a stranger approaches the two of them. Stiles doesn’t know of her, but he does know that the two of them are twins. Regardless, the teen listens to their conversation with absent interest until he notices that she’s asking him a question.

“Yeah, totally,” he replies, nodding at her. Honestly, Stiles would drive to school, but he knows his regular car couldn’t do something like that. That being said, he always had to resort to rides or the bus.
